Historical osage orange flatbow
Hi everyone!! My name's Paolo, I'm Italian and i like archery, especially I love making my bows!!
This is my last creation, osage orange, 70" long, about 50# at 26".
There were lot of knots so it drived me crazy!!
The same bow in a reenactment archery-competition

Excellent craftsmanship Paolo; the bow looks very impressive!!! It has real character. It looks like the stave came from a small tree or branch, is that right?
Do you have Osage planted in Italy or did you import the wood?
Welcome to Ozbow also!!!

Re: Historical osage orange flatbow
Thank to all for your appreciation.
When I saw all those knotts I didn't believe I could be able to make a bow.
But I tried......
grazie per l'apprezzamento
sì ho qualche foto dei vari passaggi ma non sono sicuro di trovarle.
Paolo
Hi Maurizio,
yes I have some picture of the building process but I'm not sure to find them.
Paolo
yes it wasn't a stave, it was a branch.
Yes we have lot of Osage plants in north of Italy in the Pianura Padana. Farmes use them as border between different fields's owners.
A good seasoning ( 2 years) do the rest of the work.
