Memorial shoot Sept 16 / 17 Wisemans Ferry
This event is for Traditional archers to celebrate the lives of all our Archery friends we have lost over time. Rob, once again, is generously putting on this additional event at Wisemans Ferry. It is open to all Traditional archery bows and arrow types.
There is a fee of $20 each per day, (as per last year)
It is a self catering weekend. On Saturday evening you are welcome to bring some steak to bbq at the “clubhouse” and enjoy under the marquee . The duet who entertained us last year will be there again, which will make for a very enjoyable evening.
Could you please let Robert McKenzie 0409 275827 ~ robandi8@oracletelecom.net.au know if you will be attending this event by Wed 6 Sept 2107.
The address is 533 Singleton Rd, Wisemans Ferry. The events available to shoot will be similar to the March shoot, just without the trophies. So bring a minimum of one dozen arrows +6 flu flu arrows with rubber blunts, to use on the popinjay.
See you there.
cheers

Could be a little cool overnight so pack a jumper, with daytimes between 17 - 22 according to the weather site I just looked at. Just a little reminder, this shoot is self catering, sharing and gathering under the marquee.
Only 5 sleeps to go, and a chance to toast absent friends.
cheers

Re: Memorial shoot Sept 16 / 17 Wisemans Ferry
The weather was beaut at the Memorial Shoot, even if the winds were a little gusty and cool, following a dusting of snow on the Blue Mountains. This event is non-catered and and still
65 archers came together to remember archery friends we have lost over time. They came from various areas of SE Qld, VIC, Bathurst, many towns in NSW, and included archers from Sydney Bowmen, the club where Andy Firth once shot many arrows.
All the events had been set-up, 30 Sec speed round, the 60 sec speed round where I’d set up more targets than shoot pegs and I’m not even sure if anyone noticed. The running goat, the Popinjay, and the Kings Round, with the clout being best shot between wind gusts. Watching your arrows fly sideways down to the clout ring was fun I must admit. There was also an additional 6 or so targets set up the end of the dam so we shoot those targets, collect our arrows, then walk through to the clout area and see if any of us had actually made it into clout circle. On the 20 target field course some of the shoot pegs and/or targets had been changed and moved.
We were entertained by Bella and Beebs doing cover versions on 70’s and 80’s hits, while we paid tribute to Andy Firth, who was known to enjoy a shot or two or three. He would have been proud of us, sinking many many shots, with a tribute, a few tears and lots of great memories.
Sunday morning, foggy head and all, some of us decided to attempt the challenge round, and even though this weekend is non-scoring we still only took up the 3 allowed arrows. The targets on this course are all at “quite shootable” distances, it is the surroundings of the target that intimidate the archer. We also shot the field course and some of the novelty events on Sunday.
The shoots at Wisemans Ferry are always great whether it be pouring with rain as it was in March or smiling sunshine in September. The Memorial shoot will be held on the 3rd Sunday in September next year too, which we will look forward to.
cheers
