I have another spotted gum floor board stave and have drawn out a few designs and im going to go with pyramid bow. Its 63" long, 3cm wide handle with glued on riser, tapers to 5cm then back in to 2.5. If thats understandable i just need to work out what thickness to use to get around a #45 bow. Any suggestions, i can adjust the dimesnions as i will rough it out later on.
I cant back it yet as i dont have any titebond. So it will be unbacked, my first one is going well, put another 150-200 through it today after finishing it.
Sorry about the lack of pictures but i cant upload them.

Re: Next Bow
sounds fun have you considered not using a thickness taper at all?? if you have an evenly tapeing limb that can dictate how it bends
Im gonna make it bend and break-Fall Out Boy
Re: Next Bow
well its the way that some bowyers made there bows in the 30's and ALL tiller adjustments are made by playing with the width so maby 3/4" wide handle with your handlength plus 2" fades and width i would prolly start at 1.75" and straight taper to 1/2" or 3/8'' nocks
Im gonna make it bend and break-Fall Out Boy
Re: Next Bow
coolies let us know how you go, i have a sliver top ash bow of this design, its 66" long and 2" wide at the fades with gum veins and worm holes, ugly but i love it
Im gonna make it bend and break-Fall Out Boy
