My First longbow build
Hi guys,
Here are some pictures of the first longbow I have made.
I have learnt a lot from this one and next one will be a bit more on the ball.
Only made it fairly simple as I wasn't sure how well it was going to work and didn't want to put in to much time and have it fall apart on the first shot. Haha
Good news is I have had a couple dozen shots and it's still in one piece.
Riser and Limbs are both from Tassie blackwood and walnut.
I was meaning to take a few more profess pictures but forgot to while I was doing it.
Heres a pic once I have everything machined up ready for glueing. took a bit of time to get the tapering jig right but have it there now and they take nothing to do.
All glued up and in the drying room for the night
This is after I have paralleled the bow
Rough shape and checked tiller, was spot on without having to adjust anything
And here are some of it about finished off ready for some wax. It has come out a bit over the lb I was after so is only going to hang on the wall as my first one most likely so didn't bother spraying it. will on my next one though as I should get it to spec.
This is it drawn back to 32"
seams to flick out an arrow quick enough.
I will put the scales on it tomorrow and see what it comes out at think its around 55lb
A big thankyou to the guy that offered me advise on this. especially to rodlong you've have been a big help.
Now to the next one!!!!!

From what i can see in your photos, Tyler you have done a very good job especially for your first. Lines look neat and tidy, shaping looks great, and the weight side of it is where only experience can really assist. Just a few thou out here or there with lams etc all add up, and don't forget to mike the glass too as some I had a little while back varied wildly across its width as well as at random spots. One thou thickness in some designs can be as much as 1# of draw weight, so precise measuring is essential.

Tyler, for your first attempt you have achieved an excellent result, well done.
By keeping accurate records of each build you will find it easier to reach the desired draw weight.

I really like the blend of timber colours, very earthy or organic. You have down a great job mate. x2 for Greybeards comment on records. Reviewing your own work is the most valuable tool in future design and stack calculations.
