ok,
i'm on the path to having a 1 off bow built. the problem is i'm having a hell of a time trying to work out the timber combinations.
the kicker is i'm wanting to use OZ timber as much as possible.
so what i'm trying to achieve is:
riser: dark timber similar to macassar ebony with a deep red flare through it
limbs: black palm.
so does anybody have any inspiration or ideas for timber?
thanks for the help as always.

Re: advice on timbers
Not sure what to use as the dark timber like macassar ebony but Bloodwood is a very deep red colour with a beautiful wavy grain...
Re: advice on timbers
Black palm itself combined with something like Red Box would complement your black palm limbs. Very little in the way of aussie timbers anywhere near Ebony, although there is an Aussie 'ebony' which is very rare. The palm/ red box might end up looking a little busy though.

G'day Bjorn,
Black Gidgee can be very dark chocolate, but not really black. It is very nice when ringed/figured. Bloody heavy but ADD is about 1150 kg/m3. Good for a longbow, bit heavy for a takedown recurve riser.

Hey Bjorn, I'm with Rod there Black Gidgee is about as dark as it gets with out going the full Ebony. I reckon Black Gidgee and Red bean might give you what you're after. Though I have got some Aust Ebony lurking around the shed .
The Red timber in this riser is Red bean/ Miva Mahogany. http://www.ozbow.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=15534
