When I make a string and do the serving and tie on nock points, I am always nervous using a cigarette lighter to melt the ends. So I tried my small electric soldering iron , works great much more control of where you put the heat and you can melt down that last couple of millimeters that always stops burning to soon when lit with the ciggy lighter without the risk of exploding the string

Good idea mate

I pull the tail tight and clip it flush with fingernail clippers. Cuts super short, doesn't risk burning or nicking the string.
But a soldering iron is a good solution too!
