Alternative to techniglue
G'day I was just wondering if there is any alternative to techniglue as I only need to glue up a very small split in a light poundage riser and won't need all that much glue so don't want to buy $55 worth of glue if I don't need to

I just had anouther look at it and it's worse then I thought so I might just have. To bight the bullet and get the good stuff or replace the riser wich is a shame as it's #006 huntsman recurve it's also 45# not 35# like I thought but for $20 it's worth trying tot fix it.

A lack of information makes it difficult to respond to your question.flyne wrote: to glue up a very small split in a light poundage riser...
Is it a drying crack in the timber or a split in a glue line?
Is the crack in a load / no load area of the riser?
Finally a picture of the problem area would be helpful.

Re: Alternative to techniglue
Well wen I first looked at it I thought it was just a small crescent crack at the grip.
Jim
But then I put a lot of load on it and it opened up into one dead riser lol.
I still think I might try and glue it up and pin it with fine brass thread like you do with a split gun stock just to c what will happen. Jim

Re: Alternative to techniglue
That doesn't look like a small crack to me. Looks like it would be more trouble than its worth to try and repair.

Hi Jim,
The biggest problem is getting the glue through the entire surface area of the crack.
You could try drilling some small holes through to the centre and pump two pack epoxy under pressure.
It looks like a take down riser so I believe the best and safest method would be to remove the threaded limb bolt inserts,
cut out the complete section of timber between the highlight strips, glue in a new piece of timber and shape to blend in with the riser.
Drill and re tap holes to accept inserts.
A lot of work but not impossible.
If it is a favourite bow can you buy a new riser.
Daryl.

Re: Alternative to techniglue
Daryl it's a old huntsman 3pc that I only got on the weekend for $20 so I'm not fussed if iv got to build a new riser for it as it's cost me next to nothing so if it compleatly let's go I'm not to fused I had a talk to mark about a new riser and he said it would be a couple of years before he could get to it.
So il try glueing it first and if that dosnt work il try and make a new riser.
Do you think 24hour arldite will work ?
