STEVE STRATTON MASTERCLASS - Warbow and English longbows

#1 Post by White Hawk » Mon Oct 11, 2010 11:38 am

Hi all,

we are finally at the point to be able to release details on this event. I have attached a PDF which details everything you need to know about it. The event will now be run in Victoria only. It will be a massive weekend, loads to cover and to participate in.

This is a non-profit event put on to benefit those interested in furthering their knowledge of full compass English bow making and "in the bow" shooting technique.

I believe this is a big step for traditional archery in Australia, and the re-emergence of the English style longbow/warbow, there have been plenty of clinics by well respected compounder archers and recurve archers and it is now finally possible to have the opportunity to undertake the same with a well respected traditional archer and bow maker. A man who has been paramount in the revival of the English warbow in the UK.
A big thank you to Leigh Adamson who has been working tirelessly behind the scenes with me to make this happen, indeed he has been the prime mover, a mighty effort.

I am very excited and I hope you will be too.

Enjoy

Hi all,
news just in Steve has very generously communicated that he will be bringing a warbow with him to give away as a prize to the winner of the competition we will be holding as part of the workshop weekend. This is a very generous gesture on Steve's behalf so get your paperwork and payment to Leigh asap.

cheers and thanks

This is something not to miss. You will get to work along side a great bowmaker as well as get the chance to talk to him and remember this is a guy who has had input into books and tv shows on English longbows/warbows. As well as the bow making experience there is also the shooting to enjoy and I know for myself this part of it will be fantastic.I know a fella who recently did some shooting with Steve and had his technique improved within minutes. This really will be a great weekend.

Wow, what a great offer. Stand back fella's, this baby is mine! Steve apprenticed under Pip Bickerstaffe and has been making hundreds of bows per year for the last 10 years. The world records for warbows shot are using his bows. This guy is an outstanding craftsman and will only be coming to Victoria. Guys from Nz are coming over as they understand the calibre of Steve. Don't miss out.

Just a follow up. People who said they would be coming to this event are now committing fully by sending in their entry. 3 of the 5 staves have been spoken for already so if you want to specifically make a bow while Steve does the workshop, get in quick.

Remember, rsvp is end of Nov.

roscoe, who are you flying with, I know some airlines fly into Avalon, which is within a good arrow shot or spitting distance of Geelong or Belmont. The reason I know that is I have family in Belmont. hope this helps. Cheers Roadie.

When arriving at Melbourne airport (Tullamarine) you don't actually have to drive through the city. You simply skirt West around the city via the ring road. It's important you get your application in soon so we can make final arrangements.

Now just a bit of a crack of the whip. So far 2 thirds of those that expressed interest in the visit of Steve have committed most have paid but we still really need everyone to get a move on with their entry and payment. REMEMBER the end of November is the cut off point.

I have been sending out reminders to everyone who has expressed interest (sorry to be a pain).

We are so close to getting Steve out but we are short 5 participants. We need to know no later than Nov. 30th that you are coming for sure so we can purchase a plane ticket confident in getting Steve over. Of the 30 who expressed interest there are still 10 who have not confirmed one way or the other. If you could let me know either way that would be very helpful in planning.

Much appreciated

Okay,

Last couple of days to get your form in or to let us know if you are going to be late with it. We are at the magic number of 25 with 10 people wanting to do bows. This is tremendous. Thanks for the support. There are still about 5 people who were super keen but have not contacted me recently. If you still want to come don't panic as we have enough payers now but if you could let me know soon that would be appreciated.

Update re: Stratton visit

Some goods new to just to hand, Steve is 100% confirmed, booked, ticketed and very excited to be visiting us down under for this unique seminar. There is limited space for a few more people if anyone missed the cut off, contact details are on the flyer at the start of this thread. A big thank you must go to Leigh Adamson for doing the bulk of the organising with this.

I for one am very excited to be part of this once in a lifetime experience.

cheers

Hi all,

we have opened up the Sunday shoot for people who may not be able to attend both days of this once in a lifetime opportunity to spend sometime with Steve Stratton and see one of the UK foremost warbow archers in action. Warbow Australia will also be hosting a roving mark event so if you ave ever wondered what this might be like to have a go at now is your chance. You dont need a warbow any traditoonal longbow is OK though we encourage those with ELBs to use them in keeping with the spirit of the event. Wood arrows only.

People who are already paid up for the two day event have this one included in their entry fee and as such no extra is required. If you want to come along for the Sunday event then please forward your money and an email to the details on the flyer before the event so we can cater.

It is being held at the same place as the dinner from the saturday night so if you follow the trail of ale and mead soaked archers you will find it at:

Sherrin Family Farm
right next door to the Wurdale Hall - 220 Wurdale Rd, Winchelsea

There will be a meet and greet with Steve and a chance to pick his brain about all things English military bows, a warbow shooting technique workshop and of course the annual roving mark competion hosted by Warbow Australia. Lunch is included in the entry fee.

There will be archers from all over Oz and NZ so come along and enjoy a special event.

cheers

Hi wishsong, the roving clout is a fantastic event that goes back to at least the 13thC. and is a lot of fun. As far as I know modern bows will be allowed to shoot in it this year but not for major prize ( I think? ) Just get onto Gav ( white hawk ) and let him know if your coming :)

I can now confirm that there will be trophies for three divisions of bows at the roving clout; English warbow ( as per WBA specs ) English longbow and trad bows eg modern longbows, horse bows etc.
Roving clout is a great trad event and I would encourage people to give it a go and of course you will be shooting along side a master warbow archer which will be a sight to behold as he's hitting targets with an 120lb yew warbow.

Sounds cool Len!

Its great to see the big bows shot, we have a guy at our club who shoots a 125lb Yew warbow made by Nick Lintern, that's a sight to see I can tell you, I don't even bother to try and get the arrows out of the targets he hits!
