first Boar with the long bow

#1 Post by Arra Slinger » Thu Sep 13, 2007 1:30 am

G’day,
Took the arvo off work today and went for a hunt with a mate
I decided to take the long bow out for a walk instead of the curve
so when ol mate came around and I got the bow out his comments
were something along the line of what the hell ya gunna shoot with that thing.....

Ol mate shot two Boars while we were out, both good pigs with the compound
and I shot my first longbow Boar, it would be my best to date
We were taking some video footage and pics of ol mate and his first pig when
it started to rain so like two little girls we were huddled in
behind this tree tryin to get out of the rain when a old sow walked out
of the scrub straight towards us, she crossed our sent and done the bolt.
not 2 minuets later there was a pig behind us about 30 metres out
I said to my mate is that the sow "no she went the other way" I grabbed
the long bow and with the long weeds covering his face most the time
and very soft ground I made it into 4-5 metres of him and gave
him a POC shaft (one of my lucky lucky arras) in behind the
shoulder as he quarter away. He went about 20m and all over red rover.
And the best part, the POC lived to see another day.

As ya can see she's a bit on the wet side :) :)

over the moon I was, every thing just fell into place.
Except when I was removing the jaw I ended up with a task
Hole in between two of my fingers.. As I was tryin to snap the last
Bit of jaw off, I slipped and yer them teethies are pretty sharp
Put a fair old cut in me. So maybe a couple of stitches tomorrow
She be right 8) 8)

hope you enjoy the little yarn
catha later fellas

That's an impressive boar, Ben! Congratulations on a job well-done! What kind of longbow is that? And what are the specifications? Many happy returns of the day! Cheers, Ben

Thanks fellas,
Ben, the bow was made by a old bloke at my club, he got a kit
from John Clark so its a "John Drinkwater Woomera" and its a touch
shy of 50# at 28.(bit light but just need to put more spit on the end of the arra to get it to stick good and proper)
Butcho, I thought you might like that little dress up kit 8) 8)
And yer my boss is all right, cant really complain about him, he might hear me 8)
thanks again

Nice rooter mate! Any of you Mt Isa blokes run into Butcho, tell'em I'll be in touch. Lots of water gone under the bridge since our computer went south. Cold over here in MN and dry. Almost as dry as northern QLD. Didn't mean to steal your thread. It's damn good to be back.

Hey Big Luke, I mean Big Duke,

Na it was John Drinkwater that made this one
If Rai made it i'd have to have someone walking behind me pushin me
guts back in, he can pull back some mean poundage for a skinny old codger,
if you told him you have a long bow that’s under 70# he'd say
so its a toy bow then ey
ya gota love that old coot there great people Rai and Sherl

Sticbow, the Akubra is the flashiest hat in MN, well at least up here in the bog. The new house is OK, a hell of a mortage now. The main thing is the boy and wife are better. I see it as a big curveball life throws at us from time to time. The price of living, and I thank God it wasn't any worse. Thanks for your concern.
