Northern Trip

#1 Post by Mike » Mon Apr 17, 2006 5:50 pm

On a request i have posted a few pics from last year up north. This hunting was done in the middle of the wet season and so yeah its a tad warm but quiet under foot.
All the pics are self portraits as i was hunting by myself so some of the shots could be better but its difficult to get it all right when using your pack as a tripod.
Hope you enjoy
Ther are a few more i will attach later when i am sure the sizes are ok

G'day Mike,

Thanks for showing us your photos mate. I'm glad I asked you to. Some nice boars there. Are the two buffs in that photo the ones that put you up the tree? :D

That sunset photo is absolutely beautiful!!! Would look very nice up on the wall.

No problems posting the photos and they are a good size.

Thanks once again and it was a pleasure havin a yarn with you over the weekend.

Jeff

Great shots Mike, making me jealous though. That sunset shot takes the cake for me , I`d blow that up and hang it on my wall.

Glad you all like the photos.
rory - the sunset is one of many i have in various places and that is one of a series of shots as the sun went down, and i have 3 prints of that one at various various stages hanging on the wall.

That dingo was trying to sneak up on a mob of about 20 pigs just to the right when the sow spotted him and went to push him on. On this particular place the dingo's are always looking for an opportunity to grab a pig and as a result the pigs are used to dealing with them. Its usually the sows who start to hunt them off and then the boars join in. Its great to watch
Of all the places i have hunted its the only place where i have had pigs confront me in such a an aggresive way when stalking them if spotted on many occasions. Not sure if they mistake me for a dingo or not but it sure leaves you feeling a whole lot more respect for them.

As i said to Jeff i am always worried about posting hunting pictures for fear of labelled or interpretted the worng way. As long as you all enjoy them i will put a few more on here and there.

Jeff,
No, that old bull was one i stalked 4 times over a couple of months last year and never felt right for a shot so left with just the memory. I dont think i got a pic of the 3 buffs that put me up the pandanus but i remember how rough the trunk was while making like a monkey.

I will have a look and see what i can find but most of my pics are on film and thanks again for the other day, i really appreciate it:wink:

Mike

Very nice shots mate. It's alway great to see hunting photos. I see you're using a Chek-mate in the photo of the sleeping boar. I like Chek-mates.

It's interesting too that you like flyfishing. It's amazing the number of bowhunters that also flyfish. It must be that natural ballistic thing. I'd love to catch a good barra on fly. I've caught heaps on lures before I got into flyfishing, but I haven't been up north for years. Lots of trout though. :D

Mick
There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

Hi Mick.
All the bows are Border of various type. That one is a 58 inch Black Douglas Ultra.

Love fly fishing :)
Use to fish a lot for trout until a few years ago but since moving north i have been chasing mangrove jacks from the canoe with good success. Any fish that likes to hunt is a friend of mine and one worth chasing. :D

Awesome pics. That dingo being run off by that sow was really something to witness. My 3 year old daughter was looking over my shoulder as I reviewed your post. She said "Look, he's petting that nice pig", she's liked pigs ever since she watched the Gordy movie.

Bear and Steve,
thanks for the comments. Bear i think i met you once in Davies Sports. I used to live up there and did a few years guiding but moved back south for reasons.... My best mate owns a place up there and last year i looked after his place for a few months while he was overseas. Hope to be heading back up late next month (this month now) for a few weeks and would be good to meet you if the chance is there. Also trying to ctach up with Jeff when there. :)

Steve you have some great pics posted and some fantastic hunting. Different country to here of course and the stuff that i have read about many times.

Regards
Mike
