Who Uses A Wind Indicator When Hunting?
Reading G Fred Asbell's book " Stalking and Still Hunting" not a bad read. Anyway he uses some unwaxed dental floss tied to his bow string as a wind indicator.
While not a new idea, I just started to tie a piece on my bowstring on the top loop. I think it helps me take more attention of the wind direction. While you can sometimes feel which way the wind is going, the floss indicator makes it more visual for me, therefore gets me thinking about the wind direction more.
Heard of some using cotton, some using a small feather tied on the end. While you can still use wind indicator powder, talcum powder, chalk, lighters and light weight dried plants like fairies (is that the technical term?? LOL) etc, as well, the string indicator is always there.
Who uses wind indicators or a tied on one?

Yeah I have them made on all my bows, have a piece of serving tied to a tiny feather and it works a treat, it's really good when setting up bows for beginners to teach them to always be mindful of the wind when your teaching them to hunt.

i suppose they might be too round for a clear indication and i've never used a string silencer before,
but would they work as a wind indicator?

I have seen them used by hunting mates but I don't use one. I detect wind direction by sight or by feel.

i can usually tell which way its going by the feel of it on your face
and sometimes the wind is so soft it wont blow a piece of thread
another good way is to carry a small bottle of talc and puff a bit into the air.
i hunted with a French bloke from new caledonia who used the talc bottle,he was a very good hunter.

Re: Who Uses A Wind Indicator When Hunting?
Because I wear a face mask when deer hunting I find I can miss subtle changes in air direction so carry a lighter with me, works a treat.

+1 on the lighter. When the breeze is so subtle it makes it easier to work it out.
