Re: WTB old Camp Ovens
Jeff if they were any good at that size and if they are still there, I could grab them for you and maybe take them to Barambah shoot and pass them on to someone up your way if you never got there.

would an old cast iron kettle interest you? at a guess it would hold about 4-5L

Hey Jeff
I see camp ovens at the Arkoonah park market frequently - but I've never paid much attention to them. There's an old gent who has a stall
every fortnight that mainly has old tools, ovens and other "collectables", mostly Australian, but his prices are erratic. Problem is I'd need to
buy on the spot so if you want me to keep an eye out I'd have to know what you are looking for and what there worth. ( Aust made 15").
I could sent photo's via mobile I suppose.
I seem to recall an old Furphy one in the past.

Tease!!! At 30 years I probably would have been interested too.ole_silver wrote:mine is quite young at 30 years old only, sorry mate it has a slab of venison in it right now,,
Thanks mate I had seen that one. It isn't actually a camp oven but a boiler made of tin and enamel coated. This is the sort of thing I am after.Curvemeister wrote:Got no idea on this one Jeff , but it certainly looks old......

Re: WTB old Camp Ovens
It has been going pretty well mate. I have bought some really nice old ovens, some of which were pretty rusty but I have restored them to good working condition once again. Some of these we have sold so as to make a little profit to hopefully buy some of the ovens on our wish list. We have enjoyed a nice feed or three out of them also.
Still looking though!!!

Hey Jeff,Stickbow Hunter wrote:... I have bought some really nice old ovens, some of which were pretty rusty but I have restored them to good working condition once again....
post up some before & after pics and give us a bit of info on the history of the individual ovens and their makers - would be interested to see how they came up and hear about them.
Also, how did you restore them? That'd be interesting to hear about too.
Cheers!

That would take a book mate. Seriously a very big subject. I will start a thread in Photography and show a couple of ovens and tell a bit about them.Sleepy wrote:Hey Jeff,Stickbow Hunter wrote:... Hey Stickbow Hunter,
every 2 years the Australian Camp Oven Festival is held in Millmeran west of Toowoomba in QLD and last year they had were selling new Aussie made camp ovens that were cast in Toowoomba. They were though quite expensive… I seem to remember something like $200 for a 12 inch oven (and even more for the bigger one) but they were really excellent quality. You can see some information on page 9 of the 2014 brochure at this link:
http://acof.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2 ... am-SML.pdf
The next festival is 1st & 2nd October next year (2016) and if you are interested in camp oven cooking it is well worth a visit.
best regards,
Tom

Re: WTB old Camp Ovens
Thanks Tom. I know about the festival but haven't been to it. A lot of people enjoy the weekend.
Kerry, I have a similar photo of that oven. I think it is disgusting that Nev Winter would destroy Australian history like that. There were only six of those ovens ever made I believe.
We got another nice old camp oven in Ballarat the other day while on our travels.
