Rod,

What did you think of working with the Wenge? I put two risers together using it and found it a bit of a challenge. The contrast in the grain hardness makes it hard to achieve a smooth surface. I soaked the preshaped riser in superglue and found that this hardened the soft grain and allowed the riser to be finished smooth. It took a lot of cleaning up after this process though, and I glued my gloves together on several occasions :)

Yes Steve the wenge is different to work with alright, wierd how the dark grain is harder than the lighter part, can still feel the dark stuff slightly,i used a couple coats of sanding filler on it and it looked pretty good..............Thanks Nev :D

I'd call it WOW because that's the first thing I think of when I look at the pics. No doubt I would proffer an expletive if I saw it in person ;) , such as "@$%&*%g gorgeous!" followed then by "WOW" and a rare period of speechlessness.

Very nice bow mate and I have always said it should be called winge not wenge as that is what you do when you try to finish it with clear. :D

Thanks Kim,it was'nt too bad to finish i put a thick coat of sanding sealer then sanded it and put another coat on with my finger then sanded and painted it,i let the filler dry before sanding of coarse  brought it up pretty good could have used one more thin coat which i'm doing before i repaint it. :D ........................Rod

rod, nice bow. wenge surely is an attractive wood..., but keep it away from the tips. i have had it fail there a few times

how does it perform? what is the weight of osage and wattle as core limb material? i would have thought they would have been a little heavy for core material, slowing the limbs. what thickness glass did you use? have you found the bow is slow/fast/similar to other bows?

Thanks Otis, yes i read lb Steves warning about the wenge in the tips thats why i did'nt use it there  its nice to shoot smooth quiet no hand shock that ive noticed, didnt notice any difference in the weight of the osage or wattle,50th glass..simaler to my other bows.......

Hey Grasshopper it's good to see that Yella wood in a bow, looks great! Have you got another photo showing the Osage grain?

WOW - clever Rod - and a nice looking bow, the crude individuals amongst us could suggest an inappropriate Logo for the bow as well. I would like to see it in a year or so after the timber has aged and darkened a little, will look quite elegant!
