Wooden arrow grain orientation

#1 Post by Mububban » Tue Jan 19, 2010 5:18 pm

Hey gang, long time no visit, hope everyone is well :D

Just a quick question about wooden arrow shafts. I've been glueing on nocks and points any old way, but I heard recently that it can help to align the grain a certain way each time for best performance.

So - if your arrow is nocked on the string, pointed at the target with the bow held vertically, should the grain lines run vertically ie north-south, or should they run parallel to the ground ie east-west?

Thanks!

horizontal. but you also need to put it the right way up (as in here isa top and bottom) so in the case of an arrow breaking, it doesn't dive down into your hand.

there was a thead about it recently. someone might remember what it was called.
