Nice stuff, Wayno!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

Yes Glenn they where cutt on a four inch sheild chopper I have extended the plate so the backs are a little higher then normal and this dosnt tend to effect the flight coming off the riser either.
Sometimes I wonder why more people dont use 4x4 inch fletches. Your getting an extra inch then 3x5 inches for a start
which when using broad heads the more feather the better in my opinion to straiten up faster, Your not really worried about the extra drag as whats a few feet a second when your only shooting out to 20 yards.
Then you nearly always get two cutts out of full length feathers not so when using 5 inch ones.
I have just orderd one of the new 5 inch high back bannana choppers as you know the bannanas are a lot quieter through the air a great help when hunting dear which I intend to do next year.
But I will be putting 4x5 inch fletches on as well.
I hope I havnt opened the old can of worms here the 4 inch verses the 5's again.

Wayno, having the extra feather can be an advantage especially when shooting at close range on pigs as the extra feather will help straighten the arrow up and assist with extra penetration on game.
I found the 4X5 inch feathers to work very well on game.
A lot of people get too caught up about cock feathers and hen feathers. When you are close to game the cock feather out doesen't make that much differance and it you have over spine issues with some shafts shooting the cock feather in will assist in this area.....Glenn.....

Hey Rod is interesting to hear that I suppose I should have asked around a bit more first before ordering one.
I will have to wait and see when I get mine, might have to do the same as you.
But I have noticed over the years of fletching when the arrow and fletching is new the first dozen or so shots the arrow tends to whistle a little whether it has something to do with the feathers settling in or not I dont know. But after a few dozen shots and the feathers soften a little they seem quieter.
I agree there Glenn when hunting at close range, I tend to not take shots at game past 20 metres. When shooting this close especially ten metres or less arrow flight has little time to straiten out. So In my opinion you need as much feather on the shaft as possible.
And lets face it most of the time I just knock the arrow and shoot the pig without looking at any cock feather if its got four feathers on it, it should shoot the same if you have glued your knock in the right position to the grain.

Just some thought. Thanks for the replies guys.

They look good Wayne, what do you seal the shafts with and use to stick the fletches ?
I have been giving them a coat of clear but am now finding my fletches aren't bonding real well with fletchtite platinum, was thinking of using one of the instant bond glues and then running a bead of fletchtite down each side, as someone else on here recommended.

Nice looking arrows anyway mate

Cheers

Hey Wal they are sealed with Feast Watsons satin finish. (turps base).
I ONLY PUT ONE COAT ON AND THEN FLETCH THE SHAFT UP AND APPLY FINISH COATS WHEN THE SHAFT IS COMPLETLY FINISHED.
I use the white Fletchtite tub fletching glue as the platinum I think has a different thinners in it which bites into the varnish. I use the platinum on carbon and alloy shafts and works well over wraps as it penitrates being a thinner mix.
But the most important step is to let the varnish dry hard before fletching something most people dont tend to do as they just want to get the shafts done.
I always run a bead from the front to the back on the inside of the feather when finished and very rearly feathers come off only when usually hit by another shaft.
Never be in a rush to make shafts the longer they take the better they look.

Wal I used Platinum on these shafts I made up yesterday and all fine.
A couple of photos the BLACK WIDOW CREW will like.

The other woods I used Fletchtite white tube and no peeling present.

Cheers Wayno
