show me your flu flu's

i'd love to see all your pics of your flu flu's. especially of the fletched ends. and more so the spiral fletched flu flu's.

i just bought 120 full length feathers. amoung them are some perty yellow bared and perty red bared ones. so i want to make some flu flu's. i would like to make some spiral flu flu's i think. anyone got anypics? or a buildalong for the spiral ones.

Otis what I do to make a Flu Flu,I get an arrow and put pencil marks at 12mm spacings down one side.I then soak the feather in warm water till it softens, then using a clothes peg to hold the end of the feather on the first pencil mark,I then wrap the feather around the arrow crossing over each mark until all the feather is wraped around and use a peg to hold the end.I then leave it to dry,when its dry you can take it off and fit it to the arrow shaft you want using pegs again and tack it to the shaft using super glue and then I run fletchtite down both sides of the quill.I also bind the forward end of the feather with serving to stop it getting caught when it passes over your bows shelf.Try to put the thicker end of the quill at the nock end or sandpaper the quill down before you soak it.

Not sure about others but I was mate. I then went to the local RSL for a great lunch with family.

Ottis, I much prefer to use six 5" full height fletches rather than the spiral fletch for flu flus. If you type in flu flus into the search function of the site you will find a number of threads on this subject and some have good photos of the spiral fletch.

i did that but didn't get the detail i was looking for jeff. why do you like the 6 fletch over the spiral. i just like the look of the spirals. i will probably do both anyway

I think the six fletch just seem to fly better and the spiral ones seem to slap the bow more when passing over the shelf.

jeff do you use the standard offset of a right wing helical or more of a spiral than that

Just the same helical as my normal fletching except there are six rather than three.

to make your arras spin and pull up more i put more twist in the fether i have my arras pull up from 70mtrs to 50mtrs

i use 1 full length feather per arrow in a spiral. the spiral direction depends on whether they are right or left wing feathers. if you went the right way the feather will want to stand up close to 90 degrees to the shaft, if not they will tend to lay at 45 degrees towards the nock end.

thanks guys. i have made a half dozen spiral and a half dozen six fletch. can't test them yet as i don't have any heads the right size. i will get onto this though.
