String Grooves

#1 Post by TomMcDonald » Mon Aug 24, 2009 1:10 pm

Just finished cutting some string grooves, and on one limb the string doesn't go down the centre; it goes slightly to the side.
The bow is a blank and I am pretty sure that all the other dimensions are right.
The grooves look good and even, and after hours of fine trimming I still can't seem to get the string just right down the centre.
Any ideas?

Photos would help us give the best advice, it could be caused by a few things. Steve

i recon love a good problem, with pics and ideas to fix it, but i would guess so far that the lams are not even i.e one side is thicker than the other (no 1 make a taper joke) or the nocks arnt quite right
Im gonna make it bend and break-Fall Out Boy

A few things can cause that Tom, even when you mark everything out dead centre there is no guarantee that the limb will pull straight....Glenn....

So how much of an issue is it that the string is a few mill off?

It's not really an issue at all Tom on a straight laid bow... I've made quite a few self bows with the string running off centre to varying degrees and they shot fantastic. The fact that your bow is glass should not make a difference. If you're happy with the way it shoots then I wouldn't worry. :)

Matt

Thanks for the reply matt_d.
I'll finish the bow and and start tuning and see if there's a problem.
