Thats a very comprehensive reference Grahame, I have added it to my favourites. It has helped me identify some of the chunks of wood I have in the shed .

Pretty good......and he lives in the next town down the hill.
I have a collection of scientifically named and catalogued timber specimens that Dr Robert Eldridge helped me to put together......about 400 samples.....very handy to do a direct comparison.
There are a number of really good laypersons books like the Encyclopedia of Wood by Walker which includepanels that look and feel like the timber.
