I was searching the web today trying to find a build along for a flecthing jig. I came across a build along which did not really need a jig to fletch arrows.
I first wanted to practice on something before i made a proper set of arrows. So I grabed a piece of dal, got some duck feathers out of the duck aviary.
Took me about 40 minutes to make this full arrow. After putting on the flectching and cutting a groove for the nock I glued on a spare broadhead I had.
I probably could shoot this arrow but Its spined for like a 30 lb bow. (I might see how it flies by shooting it out of my recurve but only pulling it back half way)
I then threw the arrow to see how it flies...and it went dead straight.

I used a cotton material to tie the feathers down...if anyone can point me in a better direction of hat material I should be using i would greatly appreciate it!!!!!

looks good to me, may want to invest some cash into harder feathers but other than that grate job, people have been fletching arrows for about 10,000 years and the jig is a new inverntion comparitivly, great woork!!

Very similar to my first arrow, except mine had a fire hardened point. Also, what kind of wood is that your using, is Dal the same as Dowel? If so from what i heard i would stay away from it, but if its just for practice then i suppose it serves a good purpose.

Yer it was just a practice out of a dowel rod of tas oak. Paint job is so dodgy...but I making myself a cresting jig at school in wood work.

Great effort, looks nice and trad like I do wonder at those that look a bit too perfect :lol

I made 48 arras on the w/e in readiness for Dunolly . Not quite finished yet but all are matched (4sets of12) nocked, pointed and stained ( I do like the look of raw wood) cresting and fletching to go... and I was only in your shoes 8 months ago

so get into it the more you do the quicker or I should say more efficient you get.

Possible that 4 are people attending and he is the designated arrow maker rod

yep 4 of us...& if I'm the designated nourishment provider & the kids are the designated floor vaccumers/dishwasher unpackers & mischief makers... leaves him with the rest!! ( & I do wash his smelly socks, so least he can do is make me arras, don't ya think!!

)

(oh, & the kids do sand the shafts for him ...{us!} )

like Mark said, sometime the slightly scruffy look is better than the 'perfect' ones (just look at him!!)
