Thanks Glenn
while on the goldcoast for the goldcoast marathon (my partner ran not me), i was lucky enough to spend some time with Glenn, and would like to thank him again for having and teaching me. he was very hospitable, easy to get along with and was great company....further to that, i learnt loads and loads about bowyering. so thanks again Glenn.
whilst there i was lucky enough to make a couple of bows, a heap of string, some arrows and tillering gauges, and thought i should post a couple of pics. learning how to use the tillering gauges and the process he goes through to make his bows has only made me more keen to get out and make some more...
Glenn showed me some of his bows, including some black palm bows, an original andaman island bow, and we also shot a couple of boo backed osage bows of Dean Torges'. i also got a look at Glenn's Blue Flyer recurve. i must say it is a beautiful bow.
the top two are Newell Defiants we made last week. the top one is mine 64" 67#@28, and the one below is for my partner (yet to be finished to her hand shape) which goes 64" 45#@28, while she will be drawing it 35#@25. they both shoot beautifully, no hand shock and very quick. i had a mate around today who has been shooting trad for a long time, and he couldn't put mine down.
dark wood is wenge, light wood is birds eye maple, red is paduke, a pinstripe of maple and some white glass on top. there is some pruple heart also, but can't be seen from these photos.
also weighed, spined, tapered and fletched a couple of dozen arrows.
but the highlight for me was making and now shooting my new favourite bow. a bamboo backed spotted gum reflex deflex longbow. it goes 66" 62#@28" and is an absolute rocket. we made a set of spined arows for it, but today when shooting it i decided to put some of my CX350's through it, and boy did it love them. i thought they would have been to heavy for it at 700gr a piece, but it flung them quick and flat, with excellent penetration. i can't believe how this bow shoots, it's simply an amazing piece.

The degree of satisfaction gained from the accomplishment of a goal is directly proportional to the hardships and challenges overcome in order to achieve it.

Now this isn't fair!
I've got a Defiant on order, and
seeing those makes my wait even harder.

Re: Thanks Glenn
Thanks for the comments Otis, it was a pleasure having you here. It's amazing just how well the all wood composite bows will shoot. The tiller guage helps you see the finer points of the limbs tiller and sorts out the areas the you can't see when the bow is pulled down on the tiller tree and sorts how the limbs are bending and puts it beyond doubt...Glenn...
Re: Thanks Glenn
it sure does glenn, it sure does. i don't know how i ever got a bow shooting without one.

Well-done, both of you! Good times and good gear, eh!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

Re: Thanks Glenn
The bow is great, but your grouping of arrows also impressed me! Well done on both, to both of you.
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!
Re: Thanks Glenn
Otis was a good student, we worked some big days and got through more work than I thought we would, I learnt some things as well, so it was a good week all round and would do it again...Glenn...
