Target Making

#1 Post by Stewart » Sat Jul 11, 2009 9:46 am

What are some of the best ideas for making your own target at home? ( Like M.Hogan's trolley target )

I'm not sure if you can see these without logging in to the site, but I have a few pics of mine up on TBGA on this link: http://www.aussiebowhunter.com/album.php?albumid=216

I'll see if I can dig up the photos and repost them here.

The butt is made from layers of 600 wide x 400 deep cut corrugated cardboard with the corrugations running front to back. I found it easier to cut the cardboard with a wood saw using a ply template. Layer them on top of each other and ratchet them down inside the frame. Easy as!

Hope this helps.

Rich.

my latest target is one of those plastic weave bags that hold grain and stuff full of old clothes, its the best target ever, a little heavy though but stops arrows good and its two finger removal.

i painted a rabbit on mine.

Well if you want to make a target like mine...all you need is newspaper.
Unfold it and lay it out on top of each other...like below...It will last years providing you keep it out of the rain...I see no point buying an archery target when you can make it for free...You can get newspapers buy th 100's from your local newsagents just ask for old newspapers.

If you are going to make one like mine...make sure to make it so the arrows shoot into the layers. (as shown above)

My father owns a fruit and vegetable business and has a shed full of old boxes that are missing one flap or are dinted so i am starting to use them.

Thats a nice home made target :D ...Why waste $200 dollars or more, buying a target when you can make one for practically nothing :D

fill a wheat/fertilizer bag with packaging wrap from your local couriers bin and you will stop anything without damaging your arrows in the slightest.

for a larger target make a bag out of shade sail and fill the same way. i bought one off ebay for $10.

wool bales or bulker bags stuffed with shopping bags / nappy / clothing offcuts works quite well.
