i'm going to have a go at knapping. i'm looking at making my own tools for this purpose. i need to find some copper rod about 3-4mm in diameter. can't think of where i could get some. it needs to be unannealed stuff i would think?? can't even think of something that has any inside it that could be used for what i want. i need it to make a pressure flaking tool.

What about using the thermostat rod from an older car? The thermostat on most older cars was made using a brass/copper/bronze (I'm not sure which?) rod. They're about the size that you want and possibly long enough to make into two tools for your purpose. You should be able to pick one up at the wreckers very cheaply.

i've got some glass and a chunk of natures glass (obsidian) that was given to me here in the states.
i'd love to make a knife out of the obsidian.

Mate can you tell me exactly what you want?
Being a plumber I have a ton of copper at home I might be able to melt some down and make it for you.

Cheers

Clint ships chandelary sell copper nails, I used them and made some good knapping tools out of the nails, boat builders use copper nails, you can buy them in a variety of lengths and sizes, I may even have some here on a tin I can give you...Glenn...
