The final stages of my Recurve :)
Just thought I'd keep anybody who is interested informed about the progress of my bow so far. I have just completed the final major glue up of my bow which was gluing the belly fiberglass lamination up after fixing the belly of the bow up. I managed to get the belly thickness to a variations .001 Thou which I thought was pretty good for a hand sanding job.
Below is a picture of my bow wrapped up in a heat blanket heavily insulated with an old sleeping bag and rugs So fingers crossed nothing stuffs up. I plan to turn the blanket off tomorrow morning when I get up and start shaping the bow limbs tomorrow night.
I shall keep people informed

Good on you Moss, look forward to the rest. Steve
Re: The final stages of my Recurve :)
The bow has stayed at about 65C for the last 24 hours ( i let it cool before) So I pulled the bow out and was wandering what dimension do you think I should cut the limbs to? The current width is 1.5 inches and the limbs are all parallel in thickness.
the end is in sight

Being parallel core it may call for more width taper but generally shape it parallel then taper from where the recurve starts to your final tip dimension. Steve
Re: The final stages of my Recurve :)
OK its almost finished. I had a bit of an issue with the tiller as it looks asymmetric yet the most the limbs differ from each other is 2mm so it very close (for me at least ) I still have to varnish it but i have shot it a few times and it seem pretty god all in all i am very happy with my first recurve i think this one is about 45 pound and is 62" NTN
Sorry for the bad photo's

Welldone Moss, Make sure you let us see the sassafras with a finish on it. Steve
Re: The final stages of my Recurve :)
in contrast to the dodgy photos i posted before i thought i would post some picture of the handle with some water on it to show you what it might look like with varnish as i won't be able to finish it off for a few weeks (going for a holiday up to Adelaide for a week tomorrow) oh and by the way the handle is in fact a piece of figure myrtle i picked up for $6 I think The limbs are sassafras with fibreglas

That should come up nice with a finish on it. In the first photos the bow is left handed and you are shooting left handed but in these latest photos the bow is right handed. Are the first ones reversed?

Re: The final stages of my Recurve :)
sorry Jeff
Your right it is confusing but I can explain. the first set of photos where taken with the camera in my mac book. This camera acts A lot like a mirror in that it well mirrors stuff for example i just took a photo of my water Blader and as you can see the writing on it is back to front The second lot of photos where actually taken with my little camera hence the quality difference i am truly sorry about this slight misunderstanding
