New riser ,time to cut

I recently recieved my new riser for my Horne combo .The Idea was to bolt on whichever limbs matched the best and that would be that. However there is a slight variation between the risers as the new one has a more elongated site window which means there is a limb overhang of about 6mm .I was wondering if I should use a scroll saw to cut it first and then sand to finish or use a belt sander from the start any suggestions are always appreciated.

Hi Clinton, Are you saying you want to trim the butt of the limb or riser?

Hi Clinton, Mark where the material needs removing, I would shape with my linisher or a spindle sander ideally. You can cut the excess of with a hacksaw (bi-Metal blade and then shape with a half round file being careful to work into the glass at all time to avoid raising a glass splinter down the side of your limb. Final shape with coarse emery cloth and work down to finer grades on paper.

Looking at that I would use a linisher only. Use new belts so you don't get any burning of the wood and start with a coarser grit for the initial material removal and then use a finer grit and then finish by hand with progressively finer grades of sand paper.

I would also use a linsher but be very careful not to build up any heat.As SBH said use a new belt and go softley.
