Looks good mate. Leather grips are usually laced down the back of the bow and not on the belly as you have yours.

Hahaha its a very nice bow :) I used some bathroom scales and make a tillering tree except the string goes at the top and you pull the bow down against the scales. Works ok i guess,

Well-done!

Great work Tom. Do you shoot with any particular club in Canberra or the bow building urge/craze got hold of you independent of that?

I shoot at Tuggeranong but don't mingle with any of the punters there.
I don't know, I've always loved making things and I've got an obsession with yesteryear. And archery. Makes sense really! :?

Looking good mate, well done!

I used a bag with a number of measured tins and packets from the pantry in it to make up the weight as I haven't got any scales either! First time the bag bust from the weight and I got rice and flour and broken jars of honey and beetroot all over the floor, very messy, now I use water (at 2.2lb per litre) in a container ...

Good. There's a few punters at Tuggeranong who are like minded re trad/historic bows and a bit of yesteryear. Might catch you there sometime.

Well done Tomal', looks great for your first attempt.
You need to get your drawing arm elbow up and in line with the arrow.
We will be at Tuggeranong over Easter for the ACT state field if you want to pop in and say g'day. regards Steve

Tom,

I don't know where the range is but the Canberra Archers has a large number of members shooting traditional gear. Many of those are into the medieval reinactment scene and are into building their own stuff too. I think the shoot on Sunday mornings. If you need details ask and I will look into it for you.

Steven, Yeah I've seen them shoot at my local club. The re-enactment stuff doesn't really appeal to me but it's pretty impressive to see about 30 arrows getting loosed at a butt at the same time.

I'll probably muster up the courage to go and talk to them one day. I get the feeling they'll shun me if they see me wearing sneakers though

at tuggers there are 2 people there that have built there own gear that i have seen one of them being me, and the other guy i have only seen once.....last time i was down there i had a patch on one of my bows and i got the " its a safty issue, its gonna brake." i explaned that this bow was as safe as ANY other but there ignorance towards trad archery turnd me off shooting there to offten. but hey if over easter tuggers is gonna be taken my our kind id love to get a shot in or 2.

just so u know (i can see backlash to the fact that my bow has a patch.) the bow chrissled, the bow is a bamboo backed ironbark long bow, so the chrissel was ground out and pluged with iron bark and glued in place with techniglue and tightly bound with kevlar and then the kevlar was saturated in techniglue... hehe i have a feeling the patch will last longer than the bow.

but seriously the SCA guys are pritty nice but there are very few shooting trad bows...or longbows for that matter mostly recurves.

sorry bout the rant,
cheers,
Dave

That was a very tentative draw. I contract my back ALOT more usually but was scared to draw it any more.
However, I've got it drawing to about 30 inches now which I'm very impressed with.

I'll be chasing big pigs and hopefully some Fallow over easter so unfortunately I won't be there.
Whenever there is something interested going on there I'm never able to turn up.

Yeah lots of take-down recurves within that group.

I usually just go there when no one else is there and wander around the field course. It's a great course and good for a bit of exercise.

to weigh your bows grab a set of fishing scales from BCF in tuggers they will cost you about $12 and have wights up to 55lbs.
