Bought some materials to make a tillering stick so that should be up and going over this long weekend.

Before that though, making a string.

Made a pretty simple tiller device.
I've since fixed the right limb.

how long is it? if its long enough, you could chop some wood off the ends and that would bring the draw weight up.

Nup, it's only 64". Not really long enough for me anyway.

yeah that is to short, and you would have to cut off the cool overlays too.

Tom, next one you make I would make the bow narrower but thicker from back to belly. If you made the belly flat next time I would suggest you make the belly slightly rounded, this will give you much better control of the tillering process and hitting your target weight at full draw...Glenn...

Does Spotted gum lend itself to this design?
I do like the idea of narrower better yes.
I also have access to some pretty good but expensive hickory.

Yes Tom, spotted gum would be a good timber for this design, I have made hundreds of flat bows from spotty. I would make the bow about 35mm-38mm wide. Go too wide with our hardwoods and limbs become far too thin from back to belly and they don't perform to their full potential. But like all timber the quality of spotty can vary a lot, it's a risk you take when using sawn timber. I would try the rounded belly and I also makethe edges of the limbs rounded as well, I find it better than the square sided limb...Glenn...

Sanding etc...
Some unwanted tool marks that would change the bow too much so just sort of cleaned them up a bit.
