Horn for Longbow tips

#1 Post by Trad Bound » Sat Dec 27, 2008 12:03 pm

I'm in the process of making an English Longbow from some white ash that I got from Timbow. I would like to use horn on the tips. Can any one put me onto a source for this I live in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne so a trip to an abaitors maybe long winded. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

G'day Tony, I got my horns from a farmer mate but also supplement them with some pre made ones of buffalo horn I got from Gav at Wilwood so if you can't get any cow horns give him a try. Something you probably already know but in case you don't , keep your tips small, 12mm x 12mm. Even 150lb warbows have tips this small so in theroy you could go even smaller.I've seen some huge nocks on Elb's and they look terrible and rob performance.
Hmmmmmmm.............
