Bowyers on the Northern Beaches

Hi all,
I thought I'd ask if there were any bow builders on the northern beaches of Sydney? I'd love to have a crack at building a bow out of a local wood species, but I'm very new to it all and any advice would be deeply appreciated.
I've had a read through some of the threads on local timbers and have found some suitable candidates, but I was wondering how people went about sourcing a stave when the tree isn't growing in their backyard? Obviously it would be inappropriate to head into a national park and make merry with a chainsaw.
Anyway, I'm a member of the MWFA club in Terrey Hills if anyone's local and is up for a chat about the intricacies of building a bow.
Cheers!
Chris
