Has anyone used silkie oak for a riser.? I'm about to give it a go but just wondered as I have not seen any bows with it in.if so what where the results?

i have and one has been around for a few years. It's not my favourite wood as it is quite light and I prefer a heavier wood in a riser. Same bow also had silky oak as belly veneers, so its passed the durability test.

One thing to keep in mind is that silky oak can be prone to tearing out when using edged tools. Thin fadeouts may be a problem.

What style of riser did you have in mind?
