62'' takedown

#1 Post by bigbob » Wed Apr 20, 2016 1:54 pm

Few shots of latest bow a 62'' takedown. riser is Hairy Oak/ Black Wattle. Hairy oak usually has a lot of flaws and this piece was no different, but I incorporated some into the layout making it a unique looking bow.Core lams are bamboo and belly veneer is Black Wattle. It came exactly on desired weight at 45# I will do force draw graph in next day or so as it seems quite smooth and gets an arrow away very well.

i love the stuff too Rod and one day I'm going to use it for all the lams and just see how it goes. Think it might not be as good as 'boo due to higher mass but using it as a belly lam it seems to go very well. My belly lams are a lamination in their own right not a very thin veneer. This bow has the black wattle at 75 thou.It is very quiet which seems to be a feature of this design, smooth and puts an arrow out there.

The bows are getting a rest. I pulled a muscle on my drawing arm shoulder blade. Got let it rest :(
But i have started a new set of longbow limbs and have reworked my riser template to make it leaner and lighter.

seems everybody who has been in archery for any length of time does some damage to shoulders. I have a tear in each shoulder but can still use a 60 # bow so far. Hope yours repairs quickly or you'll be joining Roy with a 20# bow !!!!LOL

Beautiful bow, as usual, Bob.

I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to takedowns & mosaics, so forgive me if this is a stupid question... The mosaic looks like it runs vertically down the centre of the riser but when you compare the difference in the pad length from the mosaic, they look uneven. Is this to account for upper/lower limb? Or does it make absolutely no difference and I'm just picking up on something entirely unimportant?

I actually meant to comment on this in my post but clean forgot. It is uneven and was caused by the need to maneuver the hairy oak part of the riser to cut out some flaws. Normally they are indeed equal. It is really cosmetic but does upset the aesthetics a little.Realised some one would pick up on it. LOL
