#1 Post by Flatliner » Tue Jan 19, 2016 5:49 pm

Been real busy lately so here's some pics of what I've been doing.

Seems like everyone wants a Raptor  .

The first one is Black Gidgee and Silver Ash with Black Palm limbs.

Rob just cant imagine the work that goes into them tip overlays mate.

When where all dust to the wind or sand to the ground,
your bows will still be hanging on the cabin wall.

Great work my friend.

I bought a plank of the black palm back in 2009 they called it coconut wood, i paid $60 for a plank about 7ft long - 2in thick and and 18in wide only the outside 3-4 inches was any good ,back then nobody was using it,i still havent used any in a bow and i've given most of it away, now i wish i had bought more of it,cause it does look good, problem now is looks like the place may have closed down,Bugger

you gave me a nice piece Rod, which made couple nice longbows. Looks good, great strength, but brittle especially around the fades on riser.

Hey Rod,
I reckon what you bought was indeed Coconut wood, which is a nice timber though not as strong or dense as Black Palm. The real McCoy PNG/NTHAust Black Palm only grows to around 250mm/10" in diameter max. The biggest board I've managed to mill out of the mature logs I've collected is 60mm x 15mm. It's very difficult to work, kind of like grinding steel that chips.

Rob.
