Muz Bow #3. "Bitsa

I knocked up my third bow. Using WA timbers, though the Mallabie I used wasn't 100% dry but I didn't think It would cause to much drama as its super heavy and dense. WRONG...I have been using my oven to cure the wipe on poly and the extra heat has caused the Mallabie to shrink. So I made a few modifications in an endeavour to safe the bow. Other than that I'm happy how this one has turned out. Made up some veneers with Sheoak, Tuart, Jarrah and Mallabie. Used Sheoak, Tuart and Mallabie in riser along with 2 x 3mm fiberglass as I had planned to try out making it into a 2 piece. Since removing outside piece of Mallabie I've replaced it with Blackbutt and Jam wood. The glass was sanded down from 0.050 to 0.030 and 0.040. Tips have Western Woody Pear and Sheoak. Hence why I've called it "BITSA".

Hopefully it lasts a few months before the remaining Mallabie in the riser causes me grief. I've glued the striker plates on tonight and look forward to having a shot with it tomorrow. I did have a few quick shots before coating it and it fairly spits them out.

Its got double 0.020 carbon in limbs and is 62"long. 52lbs @ 31" and Its cut 1/8 past center.

Gave the bow a quick tune and it shoots great.

Shot a variety of arrow weights through it and reweighed it at 51# @ 31"

620gn arrows came out at 170fps for 12.1grains/Lb

582gn arrow was 175fps at 11.4gn/Lb

555gn arrow was 180fps at 10.88gn/Lb

and 454gn arrow was 195fps at 8.9gn/Lb

The numbers look pretty good, was there a noticable difference in the feel of the bow between the different weight arrows?

Daryl.

Hey Daryl, just what you'd expect from shooting heavier arrows. Bow was quieter. Won't be using the heavy arrows just wanted to see how she performed. Plan on using the 555gn arrow which is a 400 spine gold tip with a 225gn point. Worked out it gives me a 20%FOC so should be a great hunting set-up. Haven't worked out the lighter FOC but they fairly hoot.

Gotta love the local timber Muz, wont be long and you'll be figuring how to put some sandgroper scales in the riser inlays. Nice bow mate looking better everyone you make.

Great work Muz. The WA timbers contrast beautifully. Good performance too, where in the limb layout is the carbon located (e.g. near the back)?

Cheers.... Rod

Hey Rod, yeah the carbon is below the back veneer.

0.030" glass on back
0.020" veneer
0.020" carbon
0.020" carbon
2 bamboo cores with 0.003" tapers each
0.020" veneer
and 0.040" glass on belly
