Thoughts for a bow for my Daughter

Hi all, I thought I would ask my experienced bowyers a question.
I am going to make my 16 year old a new longbow, so I can get my bow back.
I have 2 thoughts,

40 thou glass 4 0.080" 1 thou tappers 2 bamboo 2 merbau and a 120 thou parallel lam 68" 18" riser.
the other
50 thou glass 2 0.090" 1 thou tappers and 1 0.100" 1 thou tapper.

What I have worked out they both should be around 43#

Thanks woodie

Hi Woodie,

When measuring all up lamination thickness do you measure the butt thickness and include the glass as per Binghams method or the RCT method as used by John Clark from Ausbow Industries.

Binghams have a draw weight chart in their on line catalogue.

Daryl I was using the RCT method, I think.
The thickness of the lams at 21" x 2 divide by 10. What I was told if using 40 thou glass subtract 28#, dose that sound right?

Ron,

I calculate draw weight from the butt thickness so unfortunately I cannot assist you with the RCT.

The following post has the Bingham’s draw weight chart.

Woodie,

Is the thickness of your tapers measured at the reference length (i.e. 21" from the butt) or at the butt of the tapers?

Cheers... Rod

Ron I probably could have explained the above a little better.

I run full length laminations [tapered from the centre] on the back of the bow, so butt thickness would be measured at 35 inches for a 70 inch lamination.

Daryl I think you have told me that is how you do it once before.
Yes Rod I was taking to thickness at 21" from the butt.
I can't work out how the two methods can give me a different end poundage. I have only been using the RCT method and the 3 bows that I have made have worked out close to what I was aiming for.
