Twisted footings "spiral footed arrows"

The beauty of footed arrows has impressed me for a while, i've now seen this and well... i'm stunned.

apparently it's done by twisting straight footed shafts after soaking and steaming them. the twisting could make the footings weaker though.

has anybody tried these? or know anything about them? i'd like to try making some

my specific question is really, would anybody caution against making these?

Saw some many years ago made by a guy called Don Rust from Shellharbour area. Can't remember if he shot them, but they looked good.

I have made some and shot them.
When you are sanding them down the hard wood will soften with the heat and twist.
Well that is what I think happens anyway.

may your arrows fly straight and true and your limbs return.

yes Steve has done some - first one came about by accident, sandpaper, shaft and glove all tangled - getting the rest to match - different story

Made a set a few years ago, and yes soaked them in hot water and then had a jig with two holes same size as shaft and clamped one end while putting an set of heavy plumber stilsens on the other, the weight turned the footing but getting them to twist all the same was impossible as the shafts musn't have been all perfectly spined. They certainly look nice though.
