First recurve.

Thought I would toss a couple of shots on here of the bow I have been working on for some time. It's my first go at a recurve and was a great learning curve to paraphrase myself.Learnt a lot and couple of things need to be done differently in the lay up phase, but all in all it went together very well. Riser is Jarrah and silver Ash.

Limb core is Bamboo and draw weight came in 2# over target weight of 45#. could have dropped that off but decided to stay at that weight.

It also has a small 'diamond' inlay on lower belly ramp of antler and string groove overlays of Jarrah and Silver Ash. Nock overlays of micarta and Hairy Oak. Haven't shot it much yet as I've been trying to get finish coats on it in overcast and humid conditions, but it's quiet and hits exactly where one is looking!

thanks Roadie, John and Mika, apologies for crappy photos too as its yet another camera. Seems none of them like the dust I work in so I bought a cheap underwater one reasoning if its waterproof it should be good for the dust too. Its macro lens seems a bit ordinary hence the out of focus shots and its only 10mp. However its what I've got now so will have to work with it.

Bob, the bow has come up well, are you taking it for an outing at the Corrival?

Thanks guys. Rod it is a variation of a Binghams design. Daryl I will probably have it with me at Caboolture and Hazard I will get some full draw shots when the Minister for War and Finance is home to take the shots. 8)

Looks like it is nicely crafted as usual Bob. What length is it? Can't say I like the look of the forward riser though.

I actually like it Jeff once I got used to it. Seems to impart a lot of control to the user somehow. It is 60'' NTN.

Yeah mate as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It looks like it will handle longer draws no problems at all.

I'd say so judging by the full draw shot Jeff. I only have a 29'' draw with a stick bow compared to 31 1/2'' with a wheely thingo but its totally smooth out to my draw length at least.

Beautiful piece Bob!!

I have been waiting on finished photos of this one since you started posting about making the form on facebook. Would love to catch up and talk over your experience on making it and ask all the questions I have at some stage.

Cheers,

Colin

Good work Bob, like those tips mate 8) . I know what you mean about the control thing, I reckon having the grip further forward in the bow has a stabilising effect, but I have to admit when I was designing the raptor which has a similar riser shape I was in the same mind as Jeff about the way it looks, still am I guess, but the extra comfort in the draw and performance at a long draw length make up for the,,, how should I say,,, ugly duckling aesthetics.
Now you've made one curve making a straight laid bow will never be as fulfilling as it was before.

Great to see Bob.

Rob.
