This is my first arrowhead. Made it just now. It is a bit big as you can see by the leaf next to it.
My neighbour prefers round rocks but I like pointy things.
I shall refine it, make it smaller. It wobbles when I throw it and is too heavy to throw far. Annoying carrying it around all day, must invent pockets.
Any ideas how it would work better?

I decided to put my 'arra'ed' next to the ancestor stones for inspiration.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/43uzgawnk37us ... ow%202.jpg
The sticks are what I call my 'bonking' sticks. They come in handy when I need to bonk people on the head. I take them everywhere with me because lots of people need bonking on the head.
Like my son. He
throws the dam things at the neighbours' kids. That is all well and good but then you have to go and get them back.
The closest stick is a bit bent but I shall think of something. Still haven't made the arra'ed smaller. Lazy day, too much fermented fruit juice last night.

morganp,
I'm jealous of your creativity. Perhaps combining your two inventions to make a long, stabby thingy that maybe you could throw with the intention of sticking the pointy end in the intended target.
Might work.
All I've built is a time machine which keeps sending me back to a week before I finished it so I never seem to get anywhere .. get anywhere .. get anywhere

Well goodness that's a brilliant idea mate!
Just tell me this last week and I'll get straight to it and it'll be done already!

Morganp great looking rock and stick you have invented there, maybe able to use it to hit the motor on Longy's time machine and she'll start working on a same day basis.
Dam no point posting anything for the comp you two have got it wrapped up.
Cheers Wayno

Don't say that - just having fun re-inventing everything and pulling Steve's leg - this forum used to be a lot of fun at times but got a bit strict. Facebook has stopped a lot of that fun on forums too.
Others will actually make real things I hope lol.
I do have some proper sticks and pointy things I made myself, and some wattle gum etc. You never know what might appear yet. Just gotta bonk nextdoor's cat on the head with my bonking stick and cut it up for its guts and hide ....

Cmoore great looking bow, love the tip set up so simple. Good looking arrow as well.
Morganp would like it to get back to the laughs again as well just not enough of it going around, Good luck with the cat you should get a good bend in that stick trying to get him.
Cheers Wayno

After Steve asked me I have decided to enter my first recurve in the comp. I' ve learned heaps during its construction, and am confident that future recurves in this design will be of a high quality. The only issues I have had with this one are aesthetic in nature and relate to the overall finish of the bow. Performance wise it is pleasing, though it hasn't been chrono'ed as yet.I really enjoyed its construction.

I lurv those d/r or r/d (don't know or care) bows. Your sons are very lucky, need another one? I am up for adoption from such a dad! so pretty that bow. I think Robin Hood must have used one simlar when i was a kid as it is imprinted in my psyche. The chekmate longhorn was similar but with a turkish twist. It drew softly all the way back past DL a fair bit then hit a wall. From the pic yours too seems to be designed to overdraw without problems. Is it the D/r or r/d that allows that or is it the way the limbs fade? Always wondered about that.
Nice arrows too. is that glue on ribteks with an insert placed into an outsert? can i ask why you didn't just glue 'em on, have i missed or misunderstood something? edit: just realised you can swap points real easy

Morgan, Thanks for your kind words. I believe it is the limb angle resulting from the reflex that keeps the string angle lower during the draw, thus allowing longer draw length than a straight laid bow. The net amount of reflex increases the preload and the final draw weight for a given stack thickness. I don't have an explanation of the benefit of deflex other than the final product looks like it is semicircular at brace height rather than a straight section with bent limbs outside the fades. Perhaps the deflexed part of the limb doesn't work as much so more taper can be used, resulting in using more outer limb and slightly lighter tips that should translate to higher arrow speed. I haven't proved this myself, it is just a theory I have. There must be a reason hundreds of bowyers use D/R rather than reflex only.
The arrows are tipped with aluminium glue on threaded adaptors. The adaptors can receive any type of screw in tips, so we can practice with field points on our hunting arrows and then swap them out for broadheads or blunts of the same weight. I tend to treat the adaptors as the last part of the shaft. They are 1.5" long and weigh 50 grn so they are a bit heavier than the wood shaft which helps with increasing FOC. The broadhead in the previous post is a 100 grn ribtek with a 135 grn steel insert, totally up to a 235 grn screw in broadhead
Also it is possible to use one set of arrows with different point weights so they can be used in different bows (accounting for draw weight and amount of centreshot).

Nice bow Rod, son should be pretty stoked! I'm currently building a D/f myself of charcoal actionwood with purple heart/ silver Ash mosaics accents.

Ok I may as well weigh in on this one too and put in another style of bow. This is a 62 inch 3 piece take down recurve I built at the beginning of the month, it has a bubinga riser with African blackwood accent strip and white phenolic, it has bamboo core limbs with reverse tip tapers and bubinga veneers with spalted maple accents. It has been intentionally left simple with a satin finish as it's built to hunt with. It comes in at 72# @ 28 and is a smooth shooting bow that feels lighter in the draw than it is. By the way this bow is for sale if anyone is interested.
