Ok I'll be gluing today. Does the riser need to be straight grained? I don't have titebond 3, but i do have Shellys pva wood glue, is fine to use or would i have to make another trip to Bunnings?

Thanks,
Smigreth

Hmm. with regards to the glue, use it, but then bind the handle, especially the grip section, with some strong fiber of some sort. non-stretch fishing line, linen string, bowstring thread...that sort of thing.

The grain of the riser bit can be all kinds of swirly. The grain there matters not a smidge.

YAY, I've finished gluing. I managed to get my hands on some titebond 3 over the past weekend. I should cut out the riser and then taper the limbs now right? how would i go about doing this?

Any chance you could get a photo up of where you're up to?

Okay.

So, whatever you did to cut out the original width, do again, very carefully, to reduce the riser. Then we'll move onto the thickness.

Can I advise taking pictures in stronger light/outside at daytime? The pictures will be much better for it.

Also can you please upload them directly from your computer to the site and not use a hosting site. I ask this because if you delete the photos from your host down the track they will no longer be available for others to see in this thread.

You, and Dave, are doing a great job with your bow so far. I look forward to your progress.

Don't worry about being annoying for asking questions. It is how we learn. Every accomplished bowyer here once went through a stage of asking pesky questions of those that knew more.

I don't know that I am accomplished but I've made a few and STILL ask (the same bloody annoying) questions.....
