REMOVING OLD MASKING TAPE

#1 Post by Dennis La Varenne » Mon Aug 13, 2012 11:35 pm

Anybody got any good ideas on how to remove old masking tape which has almost grafted itself onto the back of a bowstave blank?

I have tried scraping it off with a cabinet scraper, but the residual glue is so gummy that it actually clogs up a cabinet scraper. The paper is gone, but the glue is proving very difficult to remove.

A wipe with some acetone should get rid of it.

Yeah acetone or Metho should work. I use the blue painters tape now for the same reason that you are complaining about. Cheers Steve

I like using eucalyptus oil to remove any old contact.

 If not a very light touch with the oxy blowtorch gets rid of most things sticky. :surprised:

I think I will give the Eucy oil a go. Acetone didn't touch it believe it or not.

I tried the grinder Rod. The bow is a mere splinter of its former self now.

Orange Oil - you can get it from most supermarkets. Eucalyptus works but if you have to go out to buy something then Orange oil is the best in my experience.

something like this product

Predator: Custom, 60", 42# and 57# @28
Toelke: Whip Custom 62", 57# @28
