They look good Wolf. Did you have to do much straightening and how did you go about it? Cheers Steve

Re: First attempt at Bamboo
They look great mate. Can you tell us a bit more about them, did you buy the shafts made up, how you did the self nocks, much straightening involved as Steve asked etc?

Re: First attempt at Bamboo
Thanks for the comments guys
These shafts are a bit more labor intensive as in getting them straight to start with
I hold the shaft over my camp stove to get it hot but not burning it then using gloved hands ( as they get very warm )and sighting down the shaft applying pressure to the bent section, its a tedious task to get them right but they came out pretty good.
The way I see it they will shoot straighter then me
The self nocks were another job I just used a carbide rod saw the type they cut tiles with this gives a great cut and a good
slot in the nock for the string, then to reinforce the end of the shaft I glued in a piece of bamboo skewer about 50mm long to fill the void inside.
I also do this to the point end before tapering with my taper tool.
The binding is used more for looks and to help with reinforcing the nock to avoid the string splitting the shaft and at the front of the
fletching to help stop them lifting and cutting ones hand.
Havent had a chance to test fly them yet as the weather down here has been pretty wet and the test pilot wants to keep the feathers dry will let you know how they fly
I have started another 12 for myself this time so I will keep you all informed of my ordeals
I love doing stuff like this out of the ordinary

Sorry Jeff
Yes mate I buy them as shafts
Im a sucker for doing it the hard way but
am toying with the idea of using horn as a reinforcement in the self nocks

Re: First attempt at Bamboo
I love 'em! They look fantastic, and they obviously fly well from the looks of that! Those bags are good for a few hundred shots, hey? I've been using them for a few years now. Fill 'em with lots of industrial plastic wrap and they are nice and light for carrying around to wherever you want to shoot at 'em and stop the arras no worries!
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!
Re: First attempt at Bamboo
Them bags are great Moreton
I just fill them with those plastic shopping bags and as the stripey bag wears out I just stuff
the old one into a new one and just keep going
They make a cheap as target butt

Re: First attempt at Bamboo
Great looking arrows Neil a job well done. I shoot a few of Rudderbows made up Boo's and for a real stiff segmented shaft the flight is great and they are tough as old boots. As he says natures carbon.
I have a few from a tradittional Korean arrow maker and his process in completing the finished arra was about 3 weeks. He got them weight perfect with matching spine which was pretty amazing.

Re: First attempt at Bamboo
They also have more weight than I first thought working out at an average of 13.9 grains per inch in those I tested here -
