with what do you mark your bows?

picking up some finish today for my recurve limbs that i have taken back to the wood and glass. what do you mark your bows with before you finish them? just got to mark the top and bottom limb and put the specs back on.

also do you mark the glass or put one coat on and then mark it and then put on further coats?

Hi Clinton, Cd markers work well and dont run, I find it better to do it after a coat or 2. Paint pens, indian ink etc work too. Steve

Clinton,

In regard to marking up glass bows, I know Jeff Challacombe lays masking tape over the limb glass both back and belly and does his marking on that WHILST IT IS FLAT before it goes in the gluing form. That keeps everything protected and you don't have to try to mark lines on curved surfaces after it comes out of the form. All the lines are already straight when it comes out of the forme irregardless of the marker you use.

Dont quite follow Dennis , do you mean he actually marks on the masking tape or uses the tape to protect the marking on the glass?

Bob,

I think Dennis might have misread Clinton's question and assumed he was asking about marking out the shape of the bow instead of writing the specs etc on the bow. :D

Aaaaah! I did misread it then. I did think he was asking about marking the layout.

I use indian pigment ink and an post office nib pen. I write on the glass after sanding before the finish goes on.
