Hi Fellas,
I have made a few self bows and by no means have I lost interest in ' trying to work out the ways of wood', but I am starting think wether is is possible for me to have a go a at a laminated /glass bow.
I am wondering what you think would be a base requirement of tools/equipment to have a go?????
I have most hand held power tools, table saw, clamps, all the basic stuff....No band saw!!. I was looking at one at Bunnings but dubious as to its ability. I am sure it would not cut a bush stave??
I have no forms.....Are these usually hand made??? or specifically ordered?
Do I need air + fire hose or can just clamps work.....
Heat box????........
Now here's where I sound like an idiot!!! What about a car in a sunny spot ????????
What is the supplier you guys most commonly use?????
Any input appreciated.
Pete

Hi Pete,
The big question is how many laminated bows do you want to make.
Daryl.

Hi Daryl,
I guess like most things, Im thinking of having a go from the base level.....
I dont see any point in outlaying heaps of money on what is basically an indulgence.....or a bit of a quest
until such a point as I thought my abilities might warrant the purchasing of additional gear.
So to answer your question .....
Consider you were making your first lam bow with minimal tools.
Perhaps you could state what you consider as an ideal ......
and further....what you think I could get away with as a minimum.
Regards.....Pete

Hi Pete, You need a straight form to clamp to, I use a 50mmx50mm steel post.
Clamps or inner tubes to provide clamping pressure.
Hacksaw with a bi metal blade.
Rasp or coarse file
Sanding block and various grits of paper and emery cloth
A chainsaw file for nock grooves
Half round rasp or coarse file for sculpting the handle shape
A bow kit which has glass, glue, laminations ,tips and handle timber.
