She's ugly but I loves Her.
Well fellas I have finally finished my first T/D Project and my third bow to-date. It has been a long process about 6 months to be exact. I had numerous problems all through the project the biggest being lining the limbs up and drilling the bolt and pin alining holes. It was an experience without a jig I tell you. I had to rescue the riser a few times from the back garden to where it landed a numerous times after throwing it out the back door in frustration. I cant take all the credit as the limbs where a pair of old wins I think ( thanks aroadik) which I operated on drilled holes changed pin sizes added wooden spacers and wood tip over lays.
The bow is a little heavy in weight for most but I just love a heavy bow and the heavy woods used in it.
It payed off not taking to much off the weight as the bow has little to no shock at all after the shot.
It is smooth to draw and shoots very strait which was a final relief after having so much dramas with the building of it. I dont have any equipment at all besides an orbital sander so most was done by hand including the cutting, sawing, rasping and filing.
It certainly makes you appreciate all the bows that are posted on this site as you know all the builders have put a lot of time and effort into there past time.
Id like to mention a thanks to all of you who put up with my questions and answered my Pm's relating to me project and helping me out it has been much appreciated also.
So here she is me first ''Justa Stick'' T/D 60'' 51@28.
Sorry about all the pictures but hey they kinda grow on ya.
Cheers Wayno

She looks good mate; I'm glad you finally got her done. Nice finish on her too.
I thought you said she was heavy.

Very nice indeed mate If it was easy it wouldn't be so rewarding well that is what they keep telling me about this trad stuff

Mate..they say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"...and I like what I see!
Given that you've done this with fairly simple tools, you've achieved a great finish and a wonderful looking bow!

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is no where as important as being able to place it in the correct spot....!
Re: She's ugly but I loves Her.
WOW !!! Wayne, she looks fantastic with the clear coat on, and you threw the riser into the garden !!! You have done a top job and 51lb is not heavy. Go shoot something with it (I believe the limbs have good mojo) cheers Pete.
Re: She's ugly but I loves Her.
Thanks for the kind words fellas. I will get a drawn shot for the bowyers on the site so they can have a look at it.
The riser timbers are Bocote, and Tablelands bloodwood. Accent Strips are bamboo and purple heart.
Limbs purple heart wedges, bamboo strips, stained maple , tipover lays purple heart.
Still cant believe she shoots strait.
Cheers Wayno

Congratulations!

It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

Re: She's ugly but I loves Her.
If you call that ugly than what do you call good looking? Nice work
Re: She's ugly but I loves Her.
Kim I put about 3 coats of sanding sealer ( feast watson) on first to fill up the grain in the timbers and it has 3 coats of wattle estapol satin as a top coat, was happy with the finish in the end. Its the first time I have used this system so will see how it holds up on hard knocks and wear and tear in the future.
Rod the tablelands bloodwood is still available up at Tolga woodshoop and mill. Next time I go up there I will see if he has any out the back left and get ya some.
Thanks for the kind words again fellas as it makes it all worth while.
Cheers Wayno

Thanks Wayne, Very nice 95% banana, love that shape what's it called ? cheers Pete.
Re: She's ugly but I loves Her.
Yeah Wayne, nice feathers! Is that a blade shape for a Vario, or did you modify either blade or feathers yourself? I'm useing the "Hunter" blade at the moment. The same shape , just slightly lower profile.
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!
Re: She's ugly but I loves Her.
No fellas there just 5 1/2 inch high back bannanas cut on a chopper and I cutt the 1/2 an inch off the back when there done. It just makes it all a little bit different.
The same as these I done a few months ago.
Cheers Wayno.
