just a quick question , is there a single book i should look for that would get me started on building a bow, long and or recurve without buying the 4 volumes of bowyers bible .
this is for some one that knows zero about bows and arra's .

Talk nicely to your local library and ask them to get Bowyers Bibles. I did and they got them in.
Its one way for them to know what their customers want.

Texx, if you are truely ready to have a go at building a bow you need to get yourself a copy of a book called "The Bowyer's Craft by Jay Massey". It has all the information that will assist you in understanding what is involved in making a bow and all the required gear to go with it. So good luck..........Bill

The bent stick by Paul Comstock is pretty good.
Are you well informed or is your news limited?

I second Looseplucker's recommendation re "The Bent Stick" by Paul Comstock if your interest lies in self bows. I actually do have the 4 volumes of the Bowyers Bible and they are good reading, but the Bent Stick is a great condensed mine of information. I guess a plus for me was the identification and recommendation re a number of appropriate timbers other that osage orange and yew.
