Who dips them...

#1 Post by kimall » Sat Aug 28, 2010 6:30 pm

I bought a dipper tube the other day and tried it today for the first time.I love it using it with the rubber gasket top it puts a super even coating on each shaft and takes no time at all to do the doz shafts.Anyone else dip their shafts or spray them like I used too.
Cheers KIM

I dip.
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

Hang-on a minute! What are you talking about, Kim? You're not seriously playing around with wooden arrows, are you?
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

I use a rag and rub the finish on.

I like to Dip, :wink: I use a tube with an overflow bowl because sometimes I find that I've receive a shaft that is under spine, so I give that shaft a double dip, :wink: this not only increases the spine but in-turn increases the shaft weight that can be identified by either a different nock, fletch or coloured cresting. By using the missed-matched automotive paint (usually in a litre amount at the local auto shop very cheap) :) I find that it dries very fast and gives a fine hard finish..........Bill

Well Ben yes just recently I found out you can make arrows from wood too. :shock: :wink: but these are some for the Daughter not me.I do however have some nice wood shafts coming for use at the Trad shoots around the place and I do like the cresting and stuff as long as I have the time.I look forward to experimenting more with this dip tube as I also like the lack of fumes in the shed.

Used a dipper for the first time last week, it was very impressive.

I've always sprayed 'em, although I haven't bothered with a crown on my last 6 or so sets of arrows, preferring instead to leave them just the natural timber colour all over. I have still crested them though.

I use the rub on method for the clear finish and I then use a clear spray for over the crest, to ensure the crest doesn't smear if it isn't fully dry.

Mick
There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

Am I allowed to simply say....
All of the above :)

dip, drip, paint, stain, brush, airbrush, spray...whatever comes my way :)
"I am the arrow..the arrow is me...together as one...I fly to thee"
"the stick maybe crooked and the string hath no form,
then married by bowyer, transforms when first drawn"
"twang....thud"

Kimall, I used a dip tube and two pac auto clear, if you dip one morning and put the mixture in the fridge you can dip again a couple hours after or the next day. The two pac auto paint dries fast and hard even in high humidity and does a nice finish with very little waste...roscoe

Am having my first try at 'purtifying' my arrows. Got some swiss pine shafts (thanks again John!) and going to team them up with brass bullet points and 4 white shield cuts. Will do a white crown I think with some yellow or red cresting....
