Acacia selfbow
This is a longbow i had recently made from an acacia board that i had. Its 70" ntn 50# 28". I have shot 200+ arrows out of it now and it only has half inch of string follow. Its a joy to shot, i came home yesterday and found the misses had strung it up and was shooting it. I think its hers now. Just need to make up string and bind the handle and seal timber....Roscoe

It looks good, how does it perform? Do you know what species of Acacia it is? I think there is about 1000 Acacia species native to Aus. and I'm guessing a lot of them wouldn't be suitable bow woods.
Re: Acacia selfbow
about 1400 Waltron by the last count. Wonder if Silver Wattle is good for selfbows, grows nice and straight in the Otways and in Gippsland.

Re: Acacia selfbow
I enjoyed making that bow, fellows i will get you the botanical name of that acacia soon. Out of all the woods i have tried this timber wonts to be a bow. Its got plenty of spring and it tillers well, it is quiet dense and very hard. Rod, the wife will be shooting for sure at the next muster i go to. I suppose it was about time i put a bow on ozbow, but making and learning to make self bows is not something you pick up straight away. One thing for sure fellows there will be more to come... Roscoe

Re: Acacia selfbow
Roscoe, will you be using some of the wattle as core lams in a glass bow.. should be good stuff.
Re: Acacia selfbow
Would be worth a try for sure Rod. When i came down again to the muster i could bring you some down to try. I dont know if i would make it down next year, but i will try. If not i could send you a board down for you to make your own lams...Roscoe
