My Second Blacktail TD Recurve (Photos)

#1 Post by Night Wing » Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:00 pm

Well, my second Blacktail Elite TD recurve bow finally arrived. From the time I sent in my order, till it arrived in my hands took 15 1/2 months. She's 66", 37# @ 30". The riser is cocobolo footed with shedua. The two woods are separated by two lines of white myrtle. The limbs are bamboo covered with a veneer of stained red elm. The limb tips are shedua.

Nice looking bow, good timber selection in the riser, well worth the waiting time.

With this Blacktail Elite being your second one you must be impressed with their performance.

Happy shooting,

Daryl.

No doubt about it the Blacktails are one of the best looking bows around. I have heard they shoot as good as they look as well...Glenn...

The riser is 19" long which means the limbs are long. With the bow cut 3/16" past center, it shoots a variety of differently spined arrows simply by changing the point weight and the bow has good speed for a 37# bow shooting heavy arrows. The recommended brace height for a 66" Blacktail is 7 3/4"-8" so I set the brace height at 7 3/4" and with all aluminum arrows cut at 32" (BOP), it will handle a 2013, 2016, 2114, 2212 and, 2213. The range for my test was 20 yards. Right now, it really likes a 2114 and the 2212. There is quite a lot of drop when shooting the 2213 and it shoots to the left about 4" which makes it a stiff arrow. Instead of adding more weight up front to make the 2213 less stiff, I think I can solve the drop and hit where I look if I increase the brace height incrementally from 7 3/4" to 8". Right now, I prefer the 2114. It's pretty flat shooting out to 20 yards. Ditto for the 2212, but the 2114 is a more durable arrow. For speed, the 2013 screams. BTW, I chose a flemish style 13 strand Dyna97 bowstring and my nock set on the bowstring is 5/8" high from the shelf. I shoot split finger with a tab; one over, two under. No hand shock at all and she's whisper quiet.

2013: 472 grains (135 grain point weight) (12.75 grains per pound)
2016: 548 grains (165 grain point weight) (14.81 grains per pound)
2114: 559 grains (190 grain point weight) (15.10 grains per pound)
2212: 524 grains (180 grain point weight) (14.16 grains per pound)
2213: 590 grains (215 grain point weight) (15.94 grains per pound)
