Hi Folks
Below is a photo of the timber that I cut while I was traveling up the coast.
There are a number of interesting things some I have never even considered.
Grey Mangrove ----------Avicennia Marina
Brown Tamarind ---------Jagera pseudorhus
Broad leaf Tamarind------Diploglotis Cunninghamii
Spotted Gum -----------Eucalyptus maculata
Brush Box--------------Lophostemon confertus
I am keen to see how the Mangrove works as it seems like nice stuff.

Re: Holliday Wood
how do you find the brush box for a bow wood? I have used it in footings, seems very tough.

Re: Holliday Wood
Hi Matt
I have not tried it as yet but I think it should be good -- the only problem is that it seems to have a lot of knots
so it may be difficult to find a clean bit

Nice Haul Graeme, keep us updated Steve
Re: Holliday Wood
Hi Steve
Yes I was pleased with the variety of interesting things -- I am currently working all the roughed out bows down to floor tiller and tying them to things to dry. I have decided that working on them green is the best thing for me as it saves all the waiting for the wood to dry then finding it is riddled with faults and no good. Also now I have worked out a method of dealing with the green timber it takes me only a fraction of the time to do the initial shaping and allows me to do some shape and alignment corrections while it is drying.

Re: Holliday Wood
Avicennia Marina grows down here in Victoria, Wilsons Prom is the worlds most southerly distribution. Never ever seen it growing good enough for timber, always seems a bit mangey but you never know what you can find. Certainly an interesting choice of timber amd I'd be interested in seeing the end product.
