Making a paddle bow at Gregs

#1 Post by Slackshot » Tue Jul 27, 2010 5:08 pm

Spent the day at Gregs making(starting)my paddle bow.Got it shaped out roughly but we think the knot at near the top might be risky.First two photos are Gregs Osage takedown(wild bit of gear)But it shoots.Next few is the paddle bow in the rough with the knot in question near the top on one limb.

Toz's bow looks a roughy alright but if it shoots good no probs. :D

It looks like you would have made a bit of yella dust shaping that bow of yours. I couldn't see any knots that would cause any problems - in fact I could only make out one very small one.

If I'm looking at the right knot - just as the limb tapers to the tip - no problems, leave it proud on the back and it will be fine

AH! Paddle bow! I was wondering what on earth a paddle bow was, but now I get it. 8)
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!

LB that piece of osage is about ten years old i think,i cut it about then and i remember the day well.My side kick set a couple of lines in the river and then went to sleep.Perry ive left it proud but it looks like its bending at the knot,,,,plus Greg is standing back as he does waiting with the wealth of knowledge that he has,did i say that i wipped into the belly and didnt listen about takeing the back down first. This is the first self bow iv made(maybe),,,,mmmm maybe it will end up as a Stickbow.

Leave it proud on the belly aswell and it will be fine. Only trouble is it sounds like you are headed for a lighter draw than you wanted - OH well, every Selfbow is a learning curve and it looks like you have good guidance there - you'll be right
