well i finally got a recurve ... its a 55 pound martin jaguar take down recurve... hopfully be here in the next few days :) now please help ..can i shoot off the shelf or do i need an aarow rest ? if so what sort should i get? and also aarows what sort should i use ?? has any body else got an opinion on the martin jags?

Use an arrow rest it should go well with one.
My mate was selling them he imported a few.I never saw them but most martin bows do the job.
Some carbons like GT 55\75 will work well with that poundage,use 5" helical feathers on arrow wraps and dont cut them short till youve tried them full length first.

Jesse,
The Martin Jaguar has a flat shelf. So unless you build it up, you are better off shooting off a rest. The bow comes with a rest but it does not last too long.

Shooting of a rest is the same as shooting off a shelf with a radius on it. Both are designed to hold the arrow and aid in fletch clearance. The rest just makes it a little easier to get good clearance.
