Front page: Who has 'what' in their favourites?
I was just thinking, do you guys frequent the front page much or come directly to the forum pages?
If you come directly to the forum pages via your shortcut link etc, would you like to know if any 'future' updates occur on the front page?
Just thinkin out loud n all...

Re: Front page: Who has 'what' in their favourites?
There's a front page?
Re: Front page: Who has 'what' in their favourites?
I never go to the Front Page ,, I go straight to the Forums . Front Page is boring ,, I want to see what people have said while I was away , the Front page stays the same,, boring !
Re: Front page: Who has 'what' in their favourites?
i type 'oz' into my browser, which then predicts ozbow.net, so i got to the front page. i do this with my 10 or so most fequented sites and find this quicker than going to favourites. having said that, i rarely see anything on the front page as i rush to the 'latest posts on our campfires' link
the only update i notice is when the centre photo on the front page has been changed

Nepotism, Coach? Thanks, I just learned a new word (I had to look it up)! There've been a fair few front page photos over the years, and most of the bows have been brands other than Jeff's. There's a fine boar and a good bowhunter in the picture, too!

It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

Coach, 'Nepotism is favoritism granted to relatives'...
Not sure if you know, but Jeff C and I are not related...
No nepotism what so ever, however once in a blue moon, people will send me photos for the front page and also give me the details of their gear which I will include. Most times, this doesn't happen.
The front page, boring!? Maybe not in the future...

Im in the same boat as otis, just type o and it pops up. I only ever notice the pictures and sometimes the advertisements come and go.

Hey Nige (Spear Chucker), I have a bit of a 'legend' photo that relates to that spear photo but nah I wouldn't post it.
We are always after good photos for the front page so if anyone has any they would like to share please send them in to me or Guy for consideration.
I go to the front page.
Jeff

As for "however once in a blue moon, people will send me photos for the front page and also give me the details of their gear which I will include. Most times, this doesn't happen. "
What doesnt happen ? The contributions .. or the fact that you dont put them up .
What I said was in Jest .. dont get ya knickers in a knot fellas
I reckon Spear Chuckers Pic should make front page . Hell , cant get more TRAD than that
Re: Front page: Who has 'what' in their favourites?
I always go to the frontpage, then click on campfires.. I quite enjoy having a look when there's a new picture up but that doesn't seem to happen very often. A good idea would be to have a whole load of pictures submitted from various members in a scrolling slideshow that changes every 10 seconds or so. Similar to the frontpage on http://www.advrider.com is a very good example of what I'm talking about. Edit: the link appears to be not working right now
Cheers,
Matt

Re: Front page: Who has 'what' in their favourites?
Matt & Ottis,
We used to have a slideshow but not many photos from wider members. The simple fact is that members fail to send us photos which we can use for the front page and we have asked on a number of occasions. As I requested above, if you have a photo you would like to see on the front page then please send it in.

Not sure on Darrens pic, not angry enough!Coach wrote: As for "however once in a blue moon, people will send me photos for the front page and also give me the details of their gear which I will include. Like the new front page. Very Snazzy

Re: Front page: Who has 'what' in their favourites?
Works well for me, stays for about 5 seconds then fades away to a new photo.

Re: Front page: Who has 'what' in their favourites?
Once you let it all load , it seems to work fine
Only criticism I have ,, the pics should be from regular contributors , rather than those that are fly by outfitters or show offs

G'day Dazza,
yer, top photo mate, I owe Chella a big one for that.
Mate you did a great job with the "DVD", but I hear there's plenty of pirated copies on the market, it's even got a run on Utube, well done mate.
Jeffery.......... I know where you live.

Re: Front page: Who has 'what' in their favourites?
I go in thru the front door, but like coming home from work I dont expect to see much change and head straight for the kettle (campfires) and thus to quote a famous Shultz "I see nothing"!!
But for those that dont and those that see it as their first contact with ozbow its all good.
Ok I just went to the FP and gave it a good look see.
The slideshow is great I think the various shots captures what the site is on about very well. Needs more kids :lol feel free to use any of the photos I have put up I think that would add to the all round view of the site.
I would mention tho that on my set up. the bottom of the "viewable page"is "advice to users..." text
ie I would have to scroll to see the ads..which I erm never do.
Another thought. The problem with the slideshow is that you would have to wait (for an increasingly longer time as more images congregate there) to see if any new ones had been added.Good thing or bad? not sure. Im wondering tho that when you add a new photo if you could make it appear as the first shot when a regular logs on? Would that mean that the filenames have changed which due to caching would force a reload of all of the images making it a pain for dialup/sat users. sorry its been too long since I fiddled with this stuff and when I did I wasnt that clever :lol

Re: Front page: Who has 'what' in their favourites?
perhaps the photos could be put into a random slideshow of some kind..???
is that possible.
i think it is great...and coach, do you always have to winge about something will it ever be good enough?

Re: Front page: Who has 'what' in their favourites?
You could have the slideshow but under it have some sort of mini pictures where you move your mouse over them and they get larger. I think itunes has some sort of thing thats similar. That would help to see if there are any new pictures to easily scroll through them, otherwise i was very happy with the normal slideshow.
